Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
