Multiple Hurt as Rough Air Impacts Delta Plane Arriving in Sydney, Australia
Several people have been injured following a Delta jet from LA to Sydney experienced turbulence this past Friday.
The flight, numbered 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, a company official told. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.
Local paramedics reported they assessed five patients, and took three to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised spinal discomfort and head pain. The injured were between their thirties and seventies.
It is the newest example of planes being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with aviation specialists saying that global warming is a significant contributor.
The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the Delta spokesperson noted, adding that the plane touched down "without further incident" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday morning.
The NSW Ambulance Service said they were alerted just a mere three minutes ahead of the plane touched down, and emergency vehicles were ready and waiting at the airport.

Data suggests that there are approximately 5,000 incidents of severe-or-greater turbulence each year, out of a total of over 35 million flights that are conducted around the world.
Intense turbulence is defined as when the sudden jolts of a aircraft passing through rough air masses exert more than a significant G-force on your body - sufficient force to propel you from your seat if you weren't wearing a seatbelt.
As a changing climate shifts atmospheric conditions, specialists caution that flying could become more turbulent: temperature changes and changing jet streams in the upper atmosphere are likely to heighten the occurrence and strength of significant turbulence.
