Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
