On his inauguration day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” America's largest city, ushering in “a new era” and an ambitious start to his tenure.

A Historic Leader

The 34-year-old figure, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Qur'an.

Mamdani ended his speech with a simple declaration: “The work has only just begun.”
